Regan Smith Keeping Busy Away from Racetrack

USAR ProCup Series Driver Finding Plenty to Occupy His Time

MOORESVILLE, N.C., (November 5, 2001) - The USAR ProCup Series may have several weeks off before its championship race Nov. 24 at USA Int'l Speedway in Lakeland, Fla., but one of the series' drivers is keeping busy. Regan Smith will be spending the next several weeks participating in sponsor promotions and charity appearances.

Smith, who pilots the No. 28 Lucas Oil/Diamond Cut Jeans Chevrolet Monte Carlo, welcomes the opportunities. "I really enjoy doing the promotional appearances and interviews," Smith said. "It gives me an opportunity to meet the fans and hopefully bring some new fans into the sport of auto racing."

Smith's first promotional appearance comes this Sunday, Nov. 11 when he appears as a guest on ShortTrack Racing USA, a Tampa, Fla.-based radio program that can also heard on the Internet. Smith will be on hand to discuss the upcoming USAR ProCup Series race at USA Int'l Speedway, as well as his personal services deal with Diamond Cut Jeans. ShortTrack Racing USA can be heard this Sunday from 6-8:00 p.m. EST on Tampa radio station WWBA or on the Internet at www.theautochannel.com.

The following week Smith will head to Atlanta, Ga. for a showcar and personal appearance at Horsetown, a specialty-clothing store located in Locust Grove, Ga. Smith's No. 28 Lucas Oil/Diamond Cut Jeans machine will be on display Thursday and Friday, Nov. 15-16. Smith, along with ARCA and NASCAR Busch Series driver Kerry Earnhardt, will be on hand at Horsetown Friday, Nov. 16 from 6-8:00 p.m. EST to meet fans and sign autographs. Horsetown is located at 4583 Bill Gardner Parkway, Locust Grove, Ga.

"I'm really excited about the appearance at Horsetown for Diamond Cut Jeans," Smith said. "This will be one of my first personal appearances since signing with Diamond Cut Jeans. I look forward to meeting some of the race fans that will be in Atlanta that weekend for the ARCA and Winston Cup races. Hopefully we can help Diamond Cut sell a few jeans that weekend as well."

On Friday, Nov. 23, Smith will join several USAR competitors as they pay a visit to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Tampa, Fla. For Smith, the visit will hold a special place in his heart.

"With Thanksgiving being the day before, hopefully we can give the kids something to smile about and bring a little laughter and fun to them for a few hours," Smith added. "For us drivers, it will be a nice reminder of how lucky and fortunate we are to be doing what we love to do for a living."

When Smith is not on the road signing autographs or participating in interviews in the next several weeks, he can be found on the golf course trying to improve his game. "I'm starting to learn how to play golf and it definitely is challenging," the Mooresville, N.C. resident noted. "It's certainly teaching me patience."
