ENRG Set to Acquire Natural Gas Fueling Operations of SDG&E; Action Opens Market with Large Growth Potential

SEAL BEACH, Calif.--Nov. 5, 2001--ENRG, North America's leader in clean transportation, has successfully won the bid to purchase and operate 11 natural gas fueling (CNG) stations owned and operated by San Diego Gas & Electric, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy . ENRG began operating the stations on November 1, 2001 and the purchase is expected to be completed by the end of 2001.
"We have laid the groundwork for services in this thriving area for some time and are pleased to enter the market formally in a leadership position," said Andrew J. Littlefair, president and CEO of ENRG. "SDG&E has done a fine job of introducing the benefits of natural gas as a vehicle fuel to the region and we intend to build on that platform to realize the strong potential there. The transit sector, led by the Metropolitan Transportation Development Board (MTDB), has paved the way by its progressive commitment to adopt natural gas fueling and plans to increase the fleet of buses. Other sectors of the market are relatively untapped, providing the basis for growth."
The 11 stations provide natural gas fueling services exceeding three million gallons per year to a variety of customers throughout San Diego County. Major customers include the Metropolitan Transportation Development Board (MTDB), North County Transit District (NCTD); Vista Unified School District (VUSD), Chula Vista Unified School District (CVUSD), and the United States Navy.
"This acquisition also fits our larger strategy of building a strong presence in major markets as North America's leader in clean transportation," Mr. Littlefair noted. "Increasingly, vehicle fleets in metropolitan areas are turning from diesel fuel and concerns about its toxicity to clean burning natural gas in response to local, regional and national governmental mandates as well as to the concerns of their customers."
ENRG is the largest provider of vehicular natural gas (CNG and LNG) and related services in North America. It now has a broad customer base that includes refuse, transit, shuttle, taxi, police, intrastate and interstate trucking, airport and municipal fleet markets with over 25,000 private and public fleet vehicles fueling at over 90 locations in California, Arizona, Vancouver and Toronto. Customers range from Los Angeles International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, to SuperShuttle, Sunline Transit and Waste Management, to MTDB of San Diego and the US Navy. The company also has an agreement with Ford Motor Company to help market alternative fuel vehicles. ENRG was formed in June 2001 through the combination of certain assets and interests of Pickens Fuel Corp. (a private company owned by Boone Pickens), BCG eFuels, Inc. (owned by BC Gas Inc., ) and Westport Innovations Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia . Company information is available at www.enrgfuel.com.
