Grand-Am Finale - Daytona International Speedway
Rolex Series Quotes - Nov. 3, 2001
Andy Wallace, Second Place Overall
Champion Racing #38 Porsche Lola
"I thought he'd have to work very hard to get past me. That's what I thought. But I got stupid on the yellow. I didn't see where the incident was and he did. It was parked over in the dark. So I lifted off for the yellow flag, and he blew by me."
Hurley Haywood, Second Place Overall
Champion Racing #38 Porsche Lola
"I was glad that he was in the car and not me. That is why we came here - to test and set the car up. We kind of treated this like a three-hour test session for the 24 hours. So we learned a lot of stuff. We'll go back and when come back here in February we'll be quicker."
Craig Conway, AGT Winner and Driver Co-Champion
Flis Motorsports Team X-1R #09 Corvette
"This is fantastic. Everything went to the plan. The car ran perfect. The drivers did their job. As usual, the crew did their job excellently. We caught some cautions. We had some great stops. It's been a great end to a great year."
Doug Goad, AGT Winner and Driver Co-Champion
Flis Motorsports Team X-1R #09 Corvette
"It's amazing, isn't it? Going into the season, nobody ever dreams of driving two cars and winning two championships. It feels absolutely phenomenal. I've been a lot more nervous this week than I thought I'd be. I'm glad it went the way it did. It's just phenomenal. It is so, so neat. I'm thrilled for
Craig. This is the first one for Craig. This is just fantastic."
"All I can say is the Flis Motorsports Team X-1R Corvette just ran like a top all night. It did what it had to do. We got in and out of the pits quick. It just ran the way it's supposed to."
Darren Law, GT Second Place and Driver Champion
G&W Motorsports #81 Porsche GT3 R
"It was a great year, great race. Coming in second in the final race and one-two in the championship, we can't ask for anything better. It's been a great year."
Matt Drendel, GT Second Place
G&W Motorsports #81 Porsche GT3 R
It's great. I wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe next year I'll come in first and let Darren be second.
Cole Scrogham, GT & GTS Team Owner Champion
G&W Motorsports #07 and #81
"It's pretty unbelievable right now. Really the biggest goal we had this year was to get Darren the driver championship. To have Darren and Matt finish one-two is really, in some ways, more pleasing than winning the team owner championships. To win two championships in one year -- to be honest you just can't imagine what this is worth."
Kim Hiskey, GT Winner
Crazy Redhead Racing #15 Porsche GT3 RS
"Awesome! Awesome! What a wonderful way to finish our season out. It's so exciting. I was just in the car thinking, 'No mistakes. No mistakes.' We pulled it off. The crew did great getting the car back together after our problems yesterday. It's so exciting."
Randy Pobst, GT Winner
Crazy Redhead Racing #15 Porsche GT3 RS
"Any wins in the Rolex Grand-Am Series are very satisfying. It's great to be here for Porsche. I can't say enough about Kim Hiskey. What a job she did driving, holding off the G&W car, which is a tremendous team. The Fordahl Motorsports team did a super job in preparing our Porsche. The Yokohama tires held up under some really tough racing conditions. We had a battle. We had a battle."
Chris Bingham, GTS Winner and Driver Champion
Park Place Racing #5 Saleen S7R
"It was incredible. The car did a great job. Trans Group, Park Place Ltd., BASF, Yokohama Tires, Gatorz Sunglasses - the sponsors are awesome. I couldn't have done this without them. The guys at Grand-Am did a great job all season. Seven out of nine wins. The championship. What more can you say?"
Andy Lally, SRPII Second Place and Driver Champion
Archangel Motorsport Services #21 Nissan Lola
"Absolutely awesome. And to do it with my best friend is just incredible. I can't say enough about the team. My teammates, my crew, my team owner, my engineer, my crew chief - I hold them in the highest regard and they helped me achieve so much. It's been a lifelong dream."
Anthony Lazzaro, SRPII Winner
Rand Racing #8 Nissan Lola
"Obviously it feels really good. We kind of used as more of a test to get ready for the 24 hour. The guys at Risi Competizione did a great job of preparing the car. We really weren't ready to come here and run yet, but we thought it would be a lot better to be here testing on the racetrack than it would be to miss out on the track time. Everybody did a good job, and it all came together. We made some progress during the week leading up to the race, but then we also went backwards in some regards. Ultimately we came out pretty good."
"Well for the season, I think it will be good. But its endurance racing, and as endurance racing goes, three hours was kind of short. Obviously you've got to come back here in January and do it in the 24 hours. I think we've got a lot of work to do to do that."
