Toyota Logs Second-Best Sales Month Ever
TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 1 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported the second-best sales month in its history with record October sales of 164,084, up 27.5 percent. Calendar-year-to-date (CYTD) sales total 1,458,869, an increase of 7.3 percent over the same period last year.
``Industry-wide incentives in October seem to have helped offset the recent slide in consumer confidence,'' said Jim Press, TMS executive vice president and COO. ``Many consumers who have been sitting on the fence are now finding the products they want at a price they can't pass up.''
The Toyota Division recorded a best-ever October with 144,300 units sold, up 30.6 percent. The Lexus Division also enjoyed a best-ever October with sales of 19,784, an increase of 8.6 percent.
Toyota passenger cars posted a best-ever October with 78,841 units sold, an increase of 19.2 percent. The all-new 2002 Camry recorded strong October sales of 34,819, up 13.9 percent. Corolla posted best-ever October sales with 29,295 units sold, an increase of 59.1 percent over the same period last year. Sales momentum for the Prius gas-electric hybrid sedan continued to escalate with a best-ever monthly sales performance of 1,580, up 83.5 percent over last October.
Toyota light trucks enjoyed their best sales month ever with 65,459 units sold, up 47.6 percent over the same period last year. The Tundra full-size pickup had best-ever monthly sales of 13,281, up 63.2 percent. Tacoma compact pickup posted sales 14,719, an increase of 23.1 percent. The 4Runner sport utility vehicle (SUV) recorded October sales of 10,239, up 27.7 percent. The Highlander mid-size SUV continued to post strong sales with 7,446 units sold. The Sequoia full-size SUV recorded solid sales of 5,707.
The Lexus Division was paced by best-ever October passenger car sales of 12,741, up 17.6 percent. The all-new ES 300 luxury sedan led the charge with sales of 5,726, up 73.2 percent. The SC 430 hardtop convertible continued to post strong sales with 1,495 units sold. The RX 300 SUV recorded 6,228 sales, an increase of 0.5 percent.
Sales of North American-built vehicles made up 62.6 percent of total
October sales.
There were 27 selling days compared to 26 last October.
