ARCA RE/MAX WARRIORS OFF TO ATLANTA FINALE
TOLEDO OH, 11-1-01 - The ARCA RE/MAX Series, poised to charge ahead with
its 50th season of competition in 2002, will conclude its ’01 season
Saturday afternoon, November 17 in the ARCA 400 at the Atlanta Motor
Speedway in Hampton, Georgia.
No stranger to the 1.54-mile superspeedway, the RE/MAX Series will make
its 33rd appearance at Atlanta since it first appeared in there 1984
when the late Davey Allison won the inaugural Georgia ARCA 150 from the
pole. Since that time, an impressive list of drivers has graced the
Atlanta ARCA winner circle, a list that includes Michael Waltrip, Mike
Wallace, Bill Venturini, Dick Trickle, Ernie Irvan, Jeff Purvis, Tim
Steele, Frank Kimmel and Charlie Glotzbach just to name a few. RE/MAX
Series veteran Bob Strait was last year’s winner. Steele is the all-time
Atlanta winner with three followed by a four-way tie for second (two
wins) among the late Grant Adcox, Allison, Jimmy Horton and Venturini.
The event, a preliminary race to Sunday’s NAPA 500 NASCAR Winston Cup
show, will be televised live on TNT. In addition, the ARCA 400 can be
heard live via radio on the Performance Racing Network (PRN). The ARCA
400, the 25th event of the season, is scheduled to start at 1 PM Eastern
time.
Preliminary entrants include ’01 series champion Kimmel,
third-generation drivers’ Jason Jarrett and Kerry Earnhardt, series
regulars’ Andy Belmont, Ron Cox and Norm Benning as well as
newcomer/rookie Chase Montgomery. Montgomery, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee,
posted the quickest speed (183.881 mph) among 17 teams in the ARCA
Atlanta test session in late October.
