Exide Renews NASCAR License
ATLANTA, Oct. 31 -- Exide Technologies (NYSE: EX - news) announced today during the SEMA and AAPEX shows that it has renewed its worldwide licensing agreement to remain the sole automotive battery licensee of NASCAR®. With the agreement, Exide extends its title as the official battery of NASCAR through 2006. Exide Technologies is the global leader in stored electrical energy solutions. NASCAR (the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) is the foremost promoter of stock car racing in North America and the leading promoter of racing events and merchandising of products related to stock car and truck racing. Exide signed its first licensing agreement, covering a full line of automotive starting batteries, with NASCAR in January of 1997.
The agreement covers the Exide Technologies NASCAR automotive battery line, including the Exide NASCAR Select®, the Exide Superior® 72 and the Exide Premium® 60. All of the products display the NASCAR logo and trademark; the batteries also will play a significant role in marketing programs throughout the year.
``The agreement sustains the strong relationship between Exide and NASCAR, two of the most commanding brands in the automotive world today,'' said David G. Enstone, President of the Exide Technologies Global Transportation Business Group. ``The Exide NASCAR Select product line offers motorists -- whether they drive the highly competitive racing circuit or heavily traveled commuter routes -- two trusted names and dependable power.''
The premium NASCAR-branded products, distributed through Exide's customer partnerships throughout the United States and Canada, are available in 21 different automotive battery types, to fit most cars, vans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks on the road today. The Exide NASCAR Select line is backed by a nationwide warranty of two years free replacement and 84 months limited warranty and carries Exide's two-year roadside assistance protection. Vibration and high heat are the leading killers of automotive batteries. Exide NASCAR Select batteries are designed to withstand the rigors of these harsh operating conditions. They deliver unsurpassed performance because of rugged, durable grid construction that reduces internal stress cracking and resists vibration. Finally, Exide NASCAR Select batteries offer an optimum balance of cold cranking amps (CCA) and reserve capacity (RC), resulting in superior performance and reliability.
``Exide continues to demonstrate its industry leadership through the development of advanced technologies paired with superior customer service,'' said Odis Lloyd, Director, NASCAR Automotive Aftermarket. ``NASCAR is proud to extend our partnership with this world class leader.''
