Third Place Finish Keeps Vickers in Championship Hunt


   Thomasville, NC - Brian Vickers and BLV Motorsports overcame an early race incident to keep their championship hopes alive this weekend after finishing third in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Dan Duncan Memorial at Concord Motorsport Park in Concord, NC. 

Vickers qualified the #42 Engineered Machined Products Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the 6th position with an elapsed time of 16.556 at a speed of 108.722 m.p.h. ³Patrick and the guys did a great job setting the car up. We came here and tested a few weeks ago and felt we had a real good package coming into this weekend. We were able to qualify in the 6th position, which is a lot better than we have been qualifying the past few races. I feel we will have a pretty good car come race time,² commented Vickers during pre-race ceremonies.

>From the start of the race, Brian had a good car, moving up to the fourth position. On lap 92, Vickers was tagged from behind and  involved in an accident that caused damage to the #42. ³We were right there in the lead pack. When the caution came out, we were in fourth right behind Hal (Goodson). Hal got slowed up in a hurry. I got into the back of him and Jason (Sarvis) got into the back of us. It wasn¹t intentional by any means. Everything just happened really quick and we were all racing so close,² stated Vickers on the incident.

On the ensuing pit stop, Vickers took on four tires, but was unable to get fuel because of damage from the accident. Crew Chief Patrick Donahue quoted, ³The guys did a great job getting the car fixed up. We had to make three or four pit stops under the caution to make repairs so we could get it filled with fuel. We lost a lot of our track position there.²

After the pit stop, Vickers had to battle heavy traffic and work his way back through the field. Brian was able to bring the #42 home in the third position. Brian went onto say after the event, ³All things considered, we had a pretty good run. The guys did a great job getting the car fixed up and it was still a car capable of winning the race, even after the accident. I believe there was some front end damage and the left rear quarter panel was tore up pretty bad. Unfortunately, we had lost a lot of track position and we were just getting to the halfway point. That came back and Ohaunted¹ (jokingly in spirit of the upcoming Halloween holiday) us toward the end of the race, because I had to be a little harder on the car than I wanted to be.²

The Dan Duncan Memorial USAR Hooters ProCup Series Hooters 250 from Concord Motorsport Park will be broadcast on Speedvision at 9:00pm on Thursday, November 8th. Brian and the team will be back in action on November 3rd with the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series for the Sam¹s Club 200 at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, NC.
