Concord, NC. - Johnson Motorsports and the Happy Hunting Grounds racing team with rookie driver Daniel Johnson found more bad luck Saturday Night in the Dan Duncan Memorial Hooters 250 at the Concord Motorsports Park.
"We came here to our home track with heavy hearts after the sudden death of our jackman Darren Darnell," said Daniel. "This race was to be in honor of his memory, we really wanted to win this race for him".
Daniel started the 2huntbucks.com/ Pro-Cut Lawn Care/ Casco Signs Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the 21st position. It took Daniel just 12 laps to move into the top 15.
"We had had a good race car here, it was a tic tight in the middle of the corner," said Johnson.
As the race moved on Daniel continued his march to the front of the field moving into the top 10 by lap 50 and top five by lap 105. After a caution on lap 167 the team pitted for four new Goodyear tires a slight wedge adjustment.
"The team did a great job in the pits tonight they have worked hard for two weeks to get this car back together after a late crush at Myrtle Beach," added Johnson. "I can not thank the guys enough for their hard work and dedication to me and this team."
Johnson started working his way back to the front of the field when a lap car spun him out on lap 187 and they had to pit to repair the damage, Daniel and the crew stayed on the lead lap and still looked to have a top 15 finish. Lady luck took that away when on the restart the right front went flat and the team had to pit and lost three laps under green.
"Its really disappointing we have been in the top 10 in points all season and now we find ourselves in 22nd in the standings with two bad finishes when we had top 10 car at both races," said Johnson. " We'll get it back together and get'em at Lakeland, FL. in three weeks."
