AuraGen VIPER Applications Extended in Both Homeland Security and National Defense
EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--Oct. 31, 2001--AURA SYSTEMS, INC. (OTC BB: AURA) announced today that it has received a series of orders for the AuraGen(R) VIPER (Vehicle Integrated Primary Electrical Resource) for applications in both Homeland Security and National Defense. The Homeland Security units have been ordered by Assurance Technology Corporation, the integrating contractor for the Naval Research Laboratories (NRL), providing ground vehicles for various Government Agencies involved in Homeland Security. These VIPER systems will provide AC & DC power and replace both alternator-inverter devices for mobile operation and trailer-mounted gensets for parked operation. The units are based on the 8,500 Watt G8500 system introduced by Aura this spring, and are several times smaller and lighter than the devices they replace.
The Company also received an order from 3D COSCOM, which is deployed in Germany, as part of USAREUR. This latest order adds to those previously announced under the original contract of 17 July, and the additional order announced 17 September. All are 5,000-Watt, All-AC systems, and will extend implementation of the VIPER into all Command assault and/or jump Tactical Operation Centers. The VIPERs replace systems that are several times heavier, larger, and notably less mobile.
In addition the Company received a sustaining order from The Operations Group (Ops Grp) which is responsible for supporting the yearly training of 10's of thousands of US Army and other troops at the National Training Center (NTC), Ft. Irwin, CA. The VIPER has been installed on a number of Ops Grp vehicles since 1998. All of these VIPERs are 5,000-Watt systems, comprised of both All-AC and AC/DC models. With this order, the Ops Grp is purchasing support training and materials to extend the use of the VIPERs into the future as part of NTC combat unit training operations.
Ron Goldstein, Aura Senior VP for Government Systems, said, "This is an excellent indication of the broad utility of the AuraGen VIPER. The applications of the AuraGen VIPER continue to be extended by US Military commands in the National Defense and now, by agencies of Homeland Security. The VIPER clearly meets the need for superior electrical power performance, responsiveness, mobility, deployability, simplicity, sustainability and cost effectiveness common to not only the Army Transformation now underway, but also to the demands of Homeland Security so recently forced upon the nation."
