Mobility Technologies Develops Tracking Software For Probe Data Collection; Program Starts With Traffic Reporting Vehicles, Will Expand to Fleets

WAYNE, Pa.--Oct. 30, 2001--Mobility Technologies (Mobility) announced today it has developed probe collection software that enables it to collect speed and location data from vehicles starting with its own traffic reporting fleet.
Called Traffic Pulse Probe Collector (SM), the software complements Mobility's Digital Traffic Pulse (SM) sensor data and its incident and event collection systems (including cameras, aircraft and emergency services monitoring), assuring the accuracy and quality of data emanating from both systems.
"Probe data is limited in its application as a stand-alone data source, but it provides a powerful added layer of information to markets utilizing Digital Traffic Pulse systems," according to Joe Reed, Mobility's CIO. "In those markets, Probe Collector data is used as a training input for advanced algorithms that model travel time variability."
He pointed out that Probe Collector data minimizes standard error in complex mathematical models that predict how traffic flow varies, including variances caused by accidents or other incidents.
Reed added: "Probe Collector is part of a comprehensive traffic data collection system. As an end aggregator of traffic information, we have built a flexible architecture that can accommodate various forms of data that supplement and enhance our core Digital Traffic Pulse sensor network. Having the ability to check a sampling of speed and location from vehicles with GPS, or other location-enabled devices, enhances our ability to train algorithms and verify real-time data quality from the digital system."
While Probe Collector was launched using the company's fleet of traffic monitoring vehicles, it will engage commercial fleets in the program. Its Fleet Feedback Program uses Probe Collector to collect samples of location data to assist fleet operators in understanding how and where traffic affects operations, with a goal of fleet optimization.
An added benefit is that Mobility can compare predicted traffic conditions to historical fleet data to ensure that the highest levels of quality and customer service are maintained.

    About Mobility Technologies:

Mobility Technologies (www.mobilitytechnologies.com) is creating America's premier traffic information franchise with its exclusive Digital Traffic Pulse sensor network, an Advanced Traffic Information System (ATIS), which continually measures traffic flow on major highways, providing motorists with actual speeds and point-to-point travel times.
Enterprise software applications deliver mobility solutions to fleets, mobile workforces and engineering users. Additionally, information is distributed on its interactive Web site (www.traffic.com) and featured on select radio and TV broadcasts through its nationwide Traffic Pulse Networks.
In addition to the company's two digitally networked cities, its Web-based traffic service is also available in 11 other markets.
