Lafarge Building Materials Selects General Physics to Provide Training Services to Support Plant Expansion

    COLUMBIA, Md.--Oct. 30, 2001--Lafarge Building Materials in Calera, AL, has chosen General Physics (GP) to develop a training program to support their plant expansion project.
    Lafarge Building Materials, part of Lafarge North America, is the leading producer and supplier of quality cements to the Southeastern construction industry. GP is a world leader in workforce development and a subsidiary of GP Strategies .
    Lafarge Building Materials is doubling production and maintaining cost-efficient operations through changes in the production process and installation of new equipment. Lafarge Building Materials contracted GP to develop a training program for all employees at the new plant.
    GP conducted a job task analysis to determine the current and future tasks of the plant personnel. Based on this analysis, a course outline was developed to address specific areas necessary to familiarize and train workers in the new technology and processes.
    The training material includes process and equipment overviews, operating procedures for production personnel, and maintenance schedules and procedures. Vendor training on specific equipment and simulator training for control room operators will be incorporated into the training program.
    As a result of the training, production and maintenance personnel will be knowledgeable and confident in their ability to have a successful start-up of the new process and equipment, and the plant will experience a shorter transition period to steady-state operations.
