Raudman Clinches 2001 Featherlite Southwest Series, Nascar
Touring Championship
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rancho Santa Margarita, California (October 29, 2001) - It was a truly
thrilling moment for Craig Raudman, driver of Dave Reed Racing's #2 Yerf-dog
Fun Karts/ITPS Chevrolet in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR
Touring, and the team when they were presented with a trophy for the 2001
Featherlite Southwest Series NASCAR Touring championship last Thursday night
at Phoenix International Raceway.
Raudman needed to finish in 41st place or better in the Albertsons/OSCO Drug
125 at PIR to clinch the championship.
The championship tops a season in which the team dominated the competition
in laps led, Bud Pole Awards won, and in the Gatorade Front Runner Award.
Raudman won four races this season, tying in that category with M. K. Kanke,
whose season was cut short due to injuries suffered in a qualifying accident
prior to the June 23rd Southwest Series event at Sears Point Raceway.
"I focused on winning races this year," said Raudman. "I have been close to
winning the championship before, but my mistake was to focus on the points
and not on winning races. You have to be consistent, and you have to be
willing to take chances. This time, we went in looking to win every race,
and it worked."
Raudman continued, "I want to thank the sponsors who have stuck behind us in
all our efforts. Yerf-Dog and ITPS were very good to us this year, and our
long-time sponsors ERC Fuel, Redline, and Circle Wheels have always been
there for us."
"We are really looking forward to Tucson," Raudman concluded. "With all that
pressure behind us, we can just concentrate on some good racing."
Team owner Dave Reed is elated to have won his first championship as an
owner, especially under difficult circumstances.
"We couldn't have done this without Yerf-Dog's support this year," Reed
commented. "They and all of our sponsors supported us during a trying time,
and we are thrilled to be able to have won this sponsorship for them."
Reed's business, Advantage Memory Corporation, was severely impacted by the
technology crash over the past year. Reed self-funded his team for many
years, and co-sponsored his team this year. However, just as they were
beginning to see that they had an opportunity to win the championship,
Reed's ability to participate in funding his racing effort was drastically
diminished.
"I have to hand it to Tracy Norman and the crew, who did such a great job on
a constantly shrinking budget," Reed continued. "If it weren't for their
resourcefulness, Yerf-Dog's support and Craig's awesome driving talent, we
wouldn't have stood a chance. But the team worked hard and pulled it off,
and I am extremely grateful to them for it."
