Vickers Races To Seventh Place Finish at Myrtle Beach
Thomasville, NC Brian Vickers and BLV Motorsports raced to a seventh place finish with the USAR Hooters ProCup Series in the Mark Brooks Memorial Hooters 250 presented by Alabama Theatre on Saturday, October 13th at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina.
Brian qualified the #42 Engineered Machined Products Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the 19th position. Vickers circled the .538 mile facility in 21.109 seconds at an average speed of 91.752 m.p.h. ³We were tight in qualifying and that hurt us a little bit. We set the car up for the race, though, and we want to be in contention at the end,² stated Vickers after qualifying.
Brian ran the first half of the race in the top-15 dealing with a loose handling race car. Crew Chief Patrick Donahue commented, ³We should have left the car where we started the day. We unloaded pretty descent and started fighting the racetrack. We were able to pit on lap 114 and tighten up the car. The guys did a great job on the pit stop and picked us up some track position. I believe we came in 12th and went back out in 7th.²
After the pit stop, Vickers was as high as the 4th position. ³We were working our way towards the front, but we started fighting the same thing we were fighting all day - a loose car and never had enough bite off the corner. That is very characteristic of this kind of racetrack; it is old and has worn out pavement.² Vickers continued, ³All things considered, though, we really didn¹t have that bad of a day. We finished in the top-10 and are still in the hunt for the championship. I am just glad that this race is in the books and look forward to going to Concord. We were able to test there this week and ran some laps that we think will be competitive.²
The USAR Hooters ProCup Series Mark Brooks Memorial Hooters 250 presented by ALabama Theatre at Myrtle Beach Speedway will be aired on Speedvision Thursday, October 18th at 9:00pm. Brian Vickers and the BLV Motorsports team will be back in action the weekend of October 27th for the Dan Duncan Memorial Hooters 250 at Concord Motorsports Park in Concord, NC.
