Arica, Chile - President Ricardo Lagos joined GM Chile employees for a celebration of three key milestones: (1) the 200,000th Chevrolet LUV manufactured at the Arica plant; (2) a $5-million dollar investment in vehicle paint technology; (3) and the company's environmental leadership in becoming the first Chilean manufacturer to earn ISO14.001 certification.
"The enthusiasm of customers who've made Chevrolet Chile's leading automotive brand during the past 18 years, inspires our team to create new successes like these...But we also very proud of the fact that GM's achievements help drive our community's economic welfare," said Nicolas Wsevolojskoy, managing director of GM Chile.
President Lagos referred to GM Chile as one of the success stories which motivate his pursuit of free trade agreements, like Mercosur.
The Chevrolet LUV is the top-selling vehicle in Chile, also exported to Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela. Approximately 25,000 LUV trucks are manufactured at Arica each year.
GM Chile, founded in 1969, has been the leader in automotive sales during the past 18 consecutive years. The company manufactures N-series trucks from our Isuzu alliance partner at the Santiago plant and the LUV pick-up, wagon and SUV at the Arica plant. GM Chile markets and sells vehicles under the Chevrolet brand.
