Lynx - Kart2CART

KART2CART-Sponsored Driver Grant Ryley Will Race Swift 014.a Fielded by
Lynx Racing In 2002 CART Toyota Atlantic Season

Lynx Racing today announced a comprehensive and far-ranging new
association with the Northwest Speedwerx 'Kart2CART' program created by
Microsoft executive and Star Formula Mazda racer Rick Waddell.
The first element of the joint program will involve Atlantic driver
Grant Ryley, 28, of San Jose, California, competing in the 2002 CART Toyota
Atlantic season in a new Swift 014.a fielded by Lynx Racing and sponsored
by Kart2CART. Ryley is a karting champion who is also a top-rated downhill
skier and has participated in Trans-Pacific yacht races.
The Kart2CART concept, which closely parallels that of Lynx Racing,
is designed to help young American drivers climb the motorsports ladder
from karting to the CART Fed Ex series. Further details of Kart2CART,
including additional drivers, sponsors and programs, will be announced in
the near future. As its name implies, the program's goal is to provide
opportunities and sponsorship for drivers and teams at each level of the
motorsports ladder, from karting through CART.
"I've been a big fan of the Lynx program for many years, and when
we decided to create the Kart2CART program it seemed logical that we should
work together," says Waddell. "We're working to create a fully-sponsored
ladder that reaches from the bottom of the sport to the top, and being able
to draw on the credibility, techniques and expertise of Lynx Racing is a
major step forward in achieving that goal."
Lynx Racing, now in its 11th year, is the most unique and
successful racing team and driver development program in open-wheel racing
today. Owned by two women, Peggy Haas and Jackie Doty, the Lynx program
focuses on a driver's mental, psychological and spiritual growth in
addition to their on-track skills. Kart2CART drivers will also participate
in the Lynx training program. Graduates of the Lynx program include CART
FedEx drivers Patrick Carpentier, Alex Barron and Memo Gidley.
"Lynx has a long and successful history of training North American
drivers and graduating them into the CART FedEx series," says Lynx Racing
co-owner Peggy Haas. "Rick Waddell and the Kart2CART program share our
goals and have enthusiastically embraced our methods, so we're looking
forward to having our two programs working in harmony to create even more
opportunities for young drivers."
There are currently two drivers in the Lynx Racing program. David
Rutledge, 23, of Vancouver, B.C. has won three CART Toyota Atlantic races
from the pole and scored three podium finishes in the 2001 season. Sara
Senske, 23, of Kennewick, Washington, competes in the Barber Dodge Pro
Series and made history earlier this season at the Target Grand Prix of
Chicago by becoming the first female driver ever to qualify on the front
row and finish on the podium at a CART-sanctioned event.
