THE STRIP HOSTS NHRA'S PACIFIC DIVISION SUMMIT RACING SERIES FINALS
        LAS VEGAS - The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is playing host
to 24 teams representing 16 NHRA Pacific Division tracks at the Summit
Racing Series Finals.  A record number of competitors from Arizona,
California, Nevada and Utah are expected to race this weekend.  The
expected 886 cars will be competing in five classes - Pro, Sportsman,
Street, Motorcycle, and High School.
        Time trials continue Saturday and will culminate in final
eliminations on Sunday, Oct. 14.  Competitors in the top four racing
categories are vying for a share of the $27,160 purse.  The champions in
each of those classes will advance to compete against the winners from
NHRA's other six divisions at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., next
month.  Each racer will earn $3,500 travel money as well as a chance at the
$5,000 winner-takes-all purse.
        Gates at Las Vegas Motor Speedway open at 7 a.m. and time trials
continue at 8 a.m.  The Race of Champions, featuring the best racers from
each participating track, will begin at 1 p.m.  For more information,
