Lynx Racing driver David Rutledge of Vancouver, B.C., posted a time
of 80.069 seconds around the 11-turn Laguna Seca Raceway, good for fourth
place on the preliminary qualifying grid for tomorrow's CART Toyota
Atlantic season finale at the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey. His Lynx
teammate, Jason LaPoint, of Woodvale, Oregon turned a lap of 80.676
seconds, good for ninth place on the preliminary grid.
Final qualifying to set the grid positions for the start of
tomorrow's 30-lap race will take place from 9:00 - 9:35 am in the morning,
with the race scheduled to take the green flag at 3:15 pm in the afternoon.
Rutledge quote: "We were second in the morning practice session, and
guessed wrong about which direction the track would go when the
temperatures came up in the afternoon. The changes we made left my car
nervous entering the turns and with a mid-corner push on low-speed corners.
Fortunately, these are all things we know how to correct, and we should be
in good shape to go for the pole and then the win tomorrow.
LaPoint quote: "I only got in a lap and a half this morning before my
clutch packed it in, so I'm not too disappointed with my time today. I've
raced on this track a number of times, but this is my first Atlantic race
here and things happen a lot faster so familiarity with the car and track
is important. We'll definitely be moving up the grid in final qualifying
tomorrow morning, and this is one of my favorite tracks in the world, so
I'm looking forward to the race."
