UAW-Chevrolet And The Make-A-Wish Foundation® Of North Texas Team Up For Wish Kids At The State Fair Of Texas

DALLAS - Chevrolet, the official vehicle of the State Fair of Texas State has opened the gates of the Fair to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas to help bring smiles to the faces of special kids. The weekend of October 12-14 of the State Fair of Texas is "UAW-Chevrolet/Make-A-Wish Weekend." This weekend highlights the dedication Chevrolet and General Motors have to granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

Wish families from the North Texas area will attend the Fair this weekend courtesy of Chevrolet and Wish children from the North Texas Region will be featured in the Chevrolet Starlight Parade on Friday and Saturday evenings. The Chevy-sponsored parade boasts colorful floats, giant puppets, stilt birds, imaginative kites and lots of State Fair memories, including the famous Clydesdales and the USMC Drum & Bugle Corps. The parade rolls nightly at 7:15 p.m.

The highlight of the "UAW-Chevrolet/Make-A-Wish Weekend" will be Saturday night on the Chevy Truck Main Stage at the Fair. Before LeAnn Rimes takes the stage at 8:30 p.m., Chevrolet will present Wish child Jonathon, 8, and Barry Smink, CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas, with a check for $10,000. Chevrolet has adopted Jonathon's wish and is donating the funds needed to send Jonathon and his family to Hawaii.

"We are thrilled to be a part of the State Fair of Texas and proud to work with Chevrolet and General Motors," Smink said. "It is because of the dedication of companies like GM that we are able to grant wishes to very special children fighting very grown-up battles."

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. It is the largest wish granting charity in the world, with 81 chapters in the United States and its territories and 20 international affiliates spanning five continents. This year, the Make-A-Wish Foundation honors 20 years of granting wishes to more than 80,000 children around the world.

Chevrolet is the largest division of General Motors and fulfills the transportation needs of more than 36 million Americans daily-more than any other manufacturer-and offers the broadest lineup of cars, trucks and vans in the industry. In 1999, UAW-GM announced an historic 3-year, multi-million dollar commitment to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the largest partnership in the Foundation's 20-year history. UAW-GM's support comes from the UAW-GM Center for Human Resources, which develops and administers education, training and retraining programs and joint activities for approximately 140,000 UAW-represented GM employees.
