The Champions Prepare to Conquer Myrtle Beach

 

            Myrtle Beach, SC- As the USAR Hooters ProCup Series prepares to invade the tough .538's mile of Myrtle Beach Speedway for the running of the Mark Brooks Memorial Hooters 250 presented by Alabama Theater many teams are speculating about the best car sit up for the ever-changing track surface.

            "Myrtle Beach is one of those tracks where you go out during practice and the track is in one condition.  When you go out to qualify and the track can be totally different; then, during the race, the track can be completely different than it has been the whole day," explained Jason Sarvis, driver of the #92 Black's Tire Service/RBR Enterprises Chevrolet.  "The more rubber that's laid on the track, the better it gets during the day, that is on a chilly day.  During a warm day, the more rubber that gets put down tends to make the track very slick.  When we make our final pit stop is when I believe the track will be the best."  

            Championship points leader, Shane Huffman agrees with Sarvis. 

"Myrtle Beach changes more than any other track we run at."  

 "We want to go out there and get the best finishes that we can get, and let the points fall where they may.  My team is preparing the car the same way we did when we went to Jennerstown.  The team always feels better after a win. They have worked hard all year and they deserve every win that we receive."  

            Past Myrtle Beach winner, Hal Goodson, driver of the #45 Carlin Financial Chevrolet, is looking forward to returning to the track. 

"I get excited anytime I go back to a track where I can win at.  Our confidence this weekend is very high and we hope to come out with the points lead.  We are going there to test tomorrow, along with about 15 other teams, including Shane Huffman.  During the afternoon test, we will focus on working on the car until about 5 p.m., then we will focus on our qualifying run.  When we cut on the lights then we will see what we have for a race set-up."

            Mark Brooks was the son of Mr. Robert H. Brooks, founder of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series and the World Wide Wing Commander of Hooters restaurants.  Mark was killed - along with Charlie Campbell, Dan Duncan, and 1992 Winston Cup Champion Alan Kulwicki when the plane they were riding in crashed near Bristol Motor Speedway on April 1, 1993.  

            Practice for the Mark Brooks Memorial Hooters 250 begins at 11 a.m., with 50 of the best drivers battling for the 40 starting car field to see who can qualify their way to win the Lance Snacks Pole Award.  The green flag will fall on the Mark Brooks Memorial Hooters 250 at 7:30 p.m., followed by Myrtle Beach's Chargers division battling it out of 50 laps.
