Carpenter Technology Corporation Technical Information Now At Fingertips Via Internet

    WYOMISSING, Pa.--Oct. 8, 2001--

World's Largest Online Database of Metals Causes Dilemma: What Should
Engineers Now Do With Bulky Reference Books?

Doorstop? Counterweight? Just what will engineers do with their metals reference books now that Carpenter Technology has put most of the information on the Internet?
Complete data sheets and detailed technical information for 267 different specialty metals are now available for free, 24 hours a day, at www.cartech.com, Carpenter Technology's website.
The database -- the largest single technical resource for metals on the Internet -- offers a variety of search methods. One can drill down to metal or metals based on product name, keywords, typical properties, user-selected properties, alloy description or category.
Searchers can also find metals by clicking on diagrams that illustrate their magnetic and corrosion resistance capabilities. In addition, Carpenter's popular Selectaloy(R) diagram, which shows the relationship between corrosion resistance and strength for stainless alloys, is available to aid the selection process.
Another special feature of the database is a Web-enabled version of Carpenter's Matched Tool and Die Steels model. Like the Selectaloy diagrams, the Matched Set Tool and Die Steels chart is designed to help tooling manufacturers choose the appropriate tool steel for their applications based on wear resistance, toughness, hardening accuracy/safety and red hardness.
The database also allows users to perform side-by-side comparisons, eliminate products from the screen and select sorting options to determine which metals would best fit their needs.
Free, unlimited access to the database requires a simple, two-minute registration process. It can be utilized through any standard browser. Previously, the database was accessible only to registered users of carpenterdirect.com, Carpenter Technology's e-commerce site for the purchase of metals.
