Announces new All American Challenge Series
Desoto Speedway President and General Manager John Sarppraicone announced the
formation of the All American Challenge Series for Super Late Models to
compete at Desoto Speedway during the 2002 season.
The new series is designed to bring Super Late Models back to the forefront
of Florida Motorsports where it once rained as the premier division. Lately
the Super Late Models have been run throughout Florida with lack luster
performances and low car counts. âœSarppraicone said he looks forward to the
challenge of rebuilding the division and giving them a new home at the
Southâ™s fastest Short Track - Desoto Speedway.â This innovative new Super
Late Model series will be open to fiberglass bodied, tube front clip chassis
with a four-barrel carburetor.
The series will consist of 15 races all 125 lap events spread throughout the
2002 season. The first scheduled event will take place with the running of
the traditional Ice-Breaker 125 to held on Sunday afternoon, February 24th,
2002. The final race of the schedule will be the annual Seafest 125, which
will be held in late October.
As a sure enticement for the driver, Sarppraicone has guaranteed a $30,000.00
points fund for the top 15 in the final 2002 standings. The Champion will
receive a minimum of $10,000.00 plus contingency awards for his efforts and a
great payout for 2nd thru 15th place finishers. The races will feature a
125-lap format and a posted purse of $14,000.00 plus dollars. The winnerâ™s
share will be $3000.00 to win and pay $250.00 to start.
In addition to this new series, Sarppraicone has also named Rick Day as
series General Manager and Race Director. Day brings over 15 years of racing
experience to the Newly formed All American Challenge Series, currently as
the Owner and Promoter of the Highly successful and popular SARA racing
series that has competed under his reigns for the last 5 season. Day also
brings an experienced background in management from his tenor with the USAR
Hooters Racing Series and veteran official throughout the Southeast United
States. âœDay said that he looks forward to the job at hand and thanks the
Sarppraiconeâ™s for the chance to rebuild Super Late Model Racing in Florida.â
