JIM BRICKMAN
SAVORS LIFE'S PLEASURES WITH NEW WINDHAM HILL ALBUM, "SIMPLE THINGS"
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH, 2001
11:00AM TO 1:00PM EASTERN
Companion Book To Be Published by Hay House
Windham Hill recording artist Jim Brickman gets back to basics this fall with
SIMPLE THINGS, the first studio album in two years for the pianist, composer and
performer. Comprised of twelve new compositions, SIMPLE THINGS coincides with
the publication of Jim's first book, also titled "Simple Things" (Hay House
Publishing).
Brickman, who has been recognized as one of America’s most romantic songwriters
for memorable hits like “Valentine” and “The Gift”, wrote or co-wrote every song
on the album. Radio stations across the country are already programming the
album’s title track, performed by Jim Brickman with singer Rebecca Lynn Howard.
SIMPLE THINGS will be in stores on September 25th.
The book is a collection of short essays about savoring life's simple pleasures
-- from a vacation in your own neighborhood to holding a newborn baby for the
first time. In a soothing yet pointed manner, Jim and co-writer Cindy Pearlman
ponder the big topics -- love, health, money, children, friendship, and the
ordinary miracles that make each day special. The idea for the book and the
album came about when Jim realized his life was revolving around cell phones,
palm pilots, and red-eye cross-country flights. Jim decided to slow down and
take time for contemplation and enjoyment of the simple things in life.
"It's mostly about opening your eyes," explained Brickman. "You've got to get
off the treadmill and find your life again."
SIMPLE THINGS is a testament to Brickman's strengths as a composer and
performer. Every song on the album invokes a more reflective, less feverish
lifestyle, from “Serenade,” "The Promise," "Waiting for You," and "Night Rain,"
to the classically influenced "Another Tuesday Morning" and "Devotion." The
title track is an upbeat pop dazzler, produced and arranged by Darrell Brown and
co-written by Jim Brickman and Beth Nielsen Chapman, writer of hits for Elton
John, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill and Willie Nelson.
Romantic piano sensation Jim Brickman made his solo album debut in 1994 with "No
Words," followed by the Gold-certified "By Heart," "Picture This," and "The
Gift." His 1999 album "Destiny" also sold over 500,000 copies, marking Jim's
fourth Gold record and putting him over the 3 million mark in career sales.
Jim performs concerts in more than 100 cities across the U.S. each year, as well
as in Asia, Canada and Europe. His first PBS television special, "My Romance:
An Evening with Jim Brickman" raised millions of dollars in pledges for local
public television stations and also spawned a hit CD and video of the same name.
