General Physics Corporation Completes First Full Year of National Domestic Preparedness Support for Weapons of Mass Destruction Response

    COLUMBIA, MD--Oct. 3, 2001--

GP Expands Service Offerings to Support Federal Government's New Challenges

General Physics (GP), a leader in workforce development and subsidiary of GP Strategies , completes one full year of dedicated support to two of our nation's premier National Domestic Preparedness Programs: the Department of Justice Domestic Preparedness Equipment Technical Assistance Program (DPETAP) and the Clara Barton Center(TM)for Domestic Preparedness. Both programs are located on, and operate under the auspices of, the U. S. Army Pine Bluff Arsenal in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
DPETAP, funded by a grant from the Justice Department, provides detailed technical information and equipment operation and maintenance training to assist First Responders throughout the country to more effectively select, use, and maintain the detection equipment used in response to a weapons of mass destruction (WMD) incident. In this first year of operation, GP Mobile Technical Assistance Teams traveled to 38 participating jurisdictions providing 400 courses with a throughput of over 5,300 students. Several new theory, equipment specific operation and maintenance courses, and advanced practical exercises will be added to the program's curriculum in 2002.
The Clara Barton Center(TM) for Domestic Preparedness, sponsored by the Department of the Army, is a partnership of the American Red Cross and Pine Bluff Arsenal. GP staffs and operates the Center, supporting the mission "to prepare American Red Cross personnel to safely respond to Weapons of Mass Destruction incidents." The Center was dedicated on May 31, 2001, and the initial class of 47 American Red Cross personnel attended a pilot WMD course in August. At current funding levels, the Center is scheduled to train approximately 1,000 Red Cross personnel per year.
GP believes the core elements of this training program have applicability outside the federal government and is currently investigating the possibility of transferring this training technology to major US corporations,
