MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE FEATURES)--Oct. 3, 2001--Entrepreneurs Murray Condon, president of Minnesota-based US Magnetix, and Jay Kamhi, president of Florida-based JDK Products, have teamed up to create magnetic American flags for the nation's car-culture to patriotically decorate vehicles.
Selling at the suggested retail price of $7.99, 10 percent of JDK's profits will be designated to disaster relief organizations supporting New York's World Trade Center victims. Consumers can purchase the 6.5x11.5-inch magnetic flags at 160 Home Depot locations and at many other retailers, supermarkets and convenience stores across the country.
"This is about getting back to work and helping rekindle the American spirit," says Condon. Located in Minneapolis, US Magnetix is one of the nation's largest magnetic manufacturers specializing in promotional magnets and magnetic-based retail products. "This project is our first priority. Our initial order is for 100,000 magnetic flags to be in stores within one week. We have already hired additional staff and ordered extra materials and equipment. As demand dictates supply, we will work around the clock to manufacture the flags."
Kamhi adds that demand shouldn't be an issue. With experience as one of the largest Beanie Babies distributors in the nation, JDK Products of Clearwater, Fla., supplies global retailers and wholesalers with toys and collectibles. "From our existing network and beyond, we have heard a strong interest from half a dozen of the country's largest retailers. "
He continues, "I know that I've found the right partner in US Magnetix and we are going to do our best to make Americans feel a little better again. That may sound corny, but it's true. The American flag is one of our strongest symbols and it moves people. The terrorists' goal is to strike fear in our hearts and keep us from being productive. We can rebuild buildings, but first we need to motivate people to a higher level, get them working again and feeling proud of their country."
Condon interjects, "As a car-culture nation, it makes sense that we like to make statements with our vehicles. Adding an American flag to our cars is a natural place to express our pride. A magnetic flag is one of the most practical options to demonstrate our patriotism. Fabric flags strapped to cars certainly grab attention, but may be a danger to driver visibility or other traffic.
Magnetic flags stay put without harming the vehicle or other drivers."
"This is about survival," says Kamhi. "It is pride and spirit and standing up to adversity. US Magnetix and JDK Products are going to do our part to get back to work and help our neighbors do the same. This is not the end of the world. It is a tragedy, but ultimately, we find power in each others' strength and move forward."
