CTS Announces New 622 MHz, 9mm x 14mm PECL Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator for Fiber Optic Infrastructure Applications

    ELKHART, Ind.--Oct. 3, 2001--CTS Corporation , a global supplier of voltage controlled crystal oscillators (VCXOs) and reference clocks for the data communications industry, today introduced Model 350, a new 9mm x 14mm surface mount PECL VCXO for fiber optic infrastructure applications OC-12 through OC-192.
    The total estimated yearly global market for 9mm x 14mm PECL VCXOs approximates $80 million. "This innovative new VCXO provides telecommunication infrastructure manufacturers a cost-effective timing solution, enabling the increased bandwidth that OEMs are demanding," states James Hart, vice president and general manager, CTS Frequency Products.
    Operating at 622.08 MHz over a temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C, CTS Model 350 VCXOs employ a patent-pending technology, resulting in typical phase jitter of less than 1 pico-second, and excellent frequency stability of plus/minus 20 ppm over all conditions for the life of the product. Further, the new VCXOs can be specified to operate at a supply voltage of either 5 volts or 3.3 volts, have a minimum absolute pull range of plus/minus 85 ppm, and provide linearity of better than plus/minus 10%. Design flexibility is such that it can be easily modified to provide additional frequencies and features.
    The hermetically sealed precision AT cut quartz crystal, which is housed within an industry standard 9mm x 14mm oscillator package, provides excellent frequency stability over the entire operating temperature range. The VCXO assembly utilizes a construction technique that matches the temperature coefficient of expansion of the customer's circuit board to assure long-term reliability through harsh environmental cycles.
    Model 350 product samples and initial production quantities are now available. Flexible architecture design allows custom specifications to be delivered within a few weeks. High volume production shipments will begin in November from CTS' facility in Singapore, where the Company has manufactured high volume, low cost, precision frequency control products since 1981.
