TEAM WALKER MOTORSPORTS WILL DONATE
LVMS WINNINGS TO AMERICAN RED CROSS
October 1, 2001 (Valencia, Calif.) - Team Walker Motorsports said today that
it will donate all of its winnings from the Saturday, October 13th Las Vegas
100 events at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway to the American Red Cross to
assist the families of the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in New
York and Washington DC.
"As we all work through the process of healing and going on, we discover
ways that we can continue to help the families of those who were lost in the
attacks," said Donna Walker, team co-owner of Team Walker Motorsports. "The
team and I felt that our winnings from the Las Vegas races would be
well-placed with the American Red Cross, which is providing front-line aid
to the victims."
The team plans to enter both the NASCAR Winston West and the Featherlite
Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring events to be held that evening. The Winston
West event is a 100-lap dash around the 1.5-mile oval, in which Team Walker
driver Sean Woodside will try to reclaim his top-five standing in the close
2001 series championship race. Woodside is currently in 7th place in the
Winston West point standings.
Woodside competed in the Southwest Series full-time in the 2000 season,
notching one win, four top-five and eight top-ten finishes.
"The American Red Cross has been extremely gratified by the public
outpouring of support since the tragic events of September 11th," said James
T. Haigwood, CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles. "We are
pleased to have the support of Team Walker Motorsports. Thanks to them and
other businesses, groups and individuals, the Red Cross is able to bring
help and hope to people all across the country."
The American Red Cross is providing lifesaving assistance in the form of
immediate disaster mass care and blood to victims and emergency workers in
New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania following the incomprehensible
attacks of September 11. The Red Cross will stay with these people as long
as necessary. The Red Cross has been on the scene from the beginning
providing disaster support in the form of food, shelter and mental health
counseling to all individuals affected.
The American Red Cross is not a government agency, but relies on voluntary
contributions of time and money to provide its humanitarian services.
