Butch Hamlet’s mind will be on racing this weekend, but he doesn’t want anyone to forget those who have been touched by the terror attacks in New York and Washington, DC.

Hamlet will be concentrating on the Taco Bell 300 at Martinsville Speedway this weekend, but the driver of the Taco Bell Late Model Stock Car has a way for race fans to reach out and help the victims and their families.

Hamlet will dedicate his run in the Taco Bell 300 feature on Sunday to the victims and families of the September 11 attacks through his “Laps for Relief” effort. Hamlet is accepting pledges for each lap he completes in the 200-lap feature race.

Pledges for “Laps for Relief” can be made by emailing Hamlet at butch@southprintinc.com, by phoning Hamlet at 540-666-3000, ext. 221 or by sending your pledge to “Laps for Relief,” c/o Butch Hamlet, 545 Hollie Drive, Martinsville, Virginia 24112.

"Whether it's a penny per lap or dollars per lap, every little bit adds up," Hamlet said.

Checks should be made payable to “Laps for Relief.” If you would like to designate a particular area for relief, you may do so. All monies will be sent to the September 11 Fund and distributed by the United Way.

United Way and The New York Community Trust have established The September 11th Fund. The contributions will be used to help respond to the immediate and longer-term needs of the victims, their families, and communities affected by the events of September 11. This includes New York, Washington, DC and Sommerset County, PA.

Please note, 100 percent of the contributions will be used to support these efforts. United Way and The New York Community Trust are underwriting all administrative costs.
