September 26, 2001Jeff Green On Kansas: Jeff Green, 2000 NASCAR Busch Series Champion and driver of the No. 10 Nestlé Nesquik Ford Taurus, is looking forward to the first event at Kansas Speedway.
"I haven't had the opportunity to visit the new Kansas track yet," said Green. "I hear it is a lot like Kentucky, so that makes me excited. We ran really well at Kentucky earlier this year. We qualified second and led the first 69 laps, but I got involved in an accident racing too hard too early in the event and ruined our chances of winning. I feel really confident that we will have a strong car this weekend for Kansas."
"I have enjoyed going to all the new facilities NASCAR has been bringing us to over the past few years," said Green. "As much as I hate to see the smaller tracks go by the wayside, I think it is great how the new tracks can seat more people and have nicer amenities for the race fans, as well as the competitors. These new tracks have the ability to fix all the problems that other tracks have experienced, like having tunnels and large garage areas. From what I hear, the new Kansas track is the nicest one of all."
Inaugural Events: Green is the only Busch Series driver to win more than one inaugural event since 1995. He scored wins from the pole in both inaugural events at Las Vegas (1997) and Memphis (1999).
On His Win at Dover: Green's win at Dover was very satisfying for the Busch Series veteran.
"The win at Dover meant so much to me," said Green. "We overcame two obstacles that day. First, we have had such bad luck at Dover over the past couple of races, it was nice to be able to shake that bad luck off. I was starting to think Dover wasn't my favorite place. Secondly, we finally had a pit strategy call that went our way. Several times this year we have gotten put a lap down for pitting to early, etc. that is seemed like it always worked against our favor. Last weekend it worked for us and I was very happy to return to victory lane. Some people have said that shaving my mustache is what changed my luck, so I'll guess I'll keep it off for awhile."
Career Wins: Green's win at Dover on Saturday, September 22nd was his 13th career NBS win. Dover was the 12th different track he has scored a win on, proving his versatility as a driver. Green has only scored multiple wins on one track, Myrtle Beach, which is now an inactive track on the Busch Series.
5 Million Dollar Man: Green became the first Busch Series competitor to pass the five million dollar mark in career earnings. Both Green and Randy LaJoie reached the mark at last weekend's race at Dover, but because Green crossed the finish line first, he was the first to pass that mark. Currently, his career earnings stand at $5,006,162. In addition, Green passed the one million dollar mark last weekend in earnings for 2001.
Equipment: Green and his Nesquik Racing team are taking the same car to Kansas that competed earlier this year at Fontana and Chicago, where it finished third and sixth respectively. They tested the Kansas car at Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte last week.
Jeff Green Appearance: Green will be signing autographs on Thursday, September 27th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Price Chopper Thunderfest at the Wyandotte County Fairgrounds in Kansas City, Kansas.
