Chrysler Group Sponsors the National Student Case Competition

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 24 Graduate students
representing some of the leading business schools in the U.S. will participate
in an academic competition that could help companies recruit and retain them.
Sponsored by DaimlerChrysler, the National Student Case Competition at the
annual conference of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) in Orlando,
Florida, September 25 - 30, 2001, will involve student teams from 35 top U.S.
business schools and one international university.
The teams will compete for scholarship awards totaling $27,000 by creating
business models that will be judged by a panel of corporate executives.
"This competition exposes us to a wide array of talent," said Frank
Fountain, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President Government Affairs. "At the
same time, the competition is a venue where students can apply academic and
practical knowledge."
This year the students have been asked to design corporate programs to
recruit MBA graduates. Elements of their proposals could include training and
development programs as well as compensation packages. According to Kim
Harris Jones, Chrysler Group Director of Finance and manager of the Case
competition, the contest should provide new ideas for employee recruitment
programs. "The students are challenged to use business principles and their
creativity to develop programs that could help attract, recruit and retain MBA
graduates."
Jones said the students were given the business case at least four weeks
prior to the competition. During the actual contest, each student team will
be required to present an analysis and a written report to a panel of
corporate executives. The teams will be judged on the quality of their
research and presentation skills, said Jones.
    A scholarship award of $12,000 will be awarded to the first place team;
the second place team will receive $9,000; and the third place team will
receive $6,000.
Student teams from renowned institutions such as the Yale School of
Management, Duke University and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School
of Business will participate in the competition. For the second consecutive
year, DaimlerChrysler will sponsor a team from the University of Stellenbosch
of South Africa in the competition.
Since 1995 Chrysler Group has sponsored the National Student Case
Competition.
