Enova Continues to Increase Sales of Its Hybrid Propulsion Systems
TORRANCE, Calif.--Sept. 24, 2001--Enova Systems, Torrance, (OTCBB:ENVA), announced new supplier agreements with two European transit bus manufacturers with global reach: Wright Bus (United Kingdom) and Eco Power Technology (Italy).Through these alliances, the international markets for Enova's Panther(TM) heavy-duty electric and hybrid-electric propulsion systems continue to expand.
According to Carl Dean Perry, president and chief executive officer of Enova: "We are proud to report the continued increase in sales of our heavy-duty hybrid propulsion systems -- and delighted to become the exclusive supplier of electric and hybrid-electric propulsion systems for Wright Bus and EPT, both global leaders. These agreements also continue Enova's expanding role as a manufacturer of digital power componentry."
These agreements build upon the strong marketing alliance already established with leading microturbine manufacturer Capstone Turbine . Enova is including the sale of the microturbine as a part of the fully integrated Panther(TM) propulsion system when configured as a series-hybrid system.
The actual propulsion power is provided by the Panther(TM) 120kW drive system, a full-featured package that includes motor controller, 12VDC and 24VDC supplies, battery and energy management, 6.6kW charger, hybrid controller and drive motor with integral gear reduction.
Eco Power Technology, with headquarters in Italy, has already completed its vehicle prototyping and testing with two series-hybrid buses and is now moving to production. As part of its production program, it has awarded Enova Systems with a purchase order for 15 complete Panther(TM) 120kW drive systems, all to be delivered before the end of 2001.
These propulsion systems will be used to power its two new innovative transit products, the all-electric "Elfo" and the hybrid-electric "Horus" bus. Both the "Elfo" and "Horus" are currently being demonstrated to key Italian transit operators. Eight all-electric "Elfo" buses have already been sold to the Italian city of Genova and two of the hybrid-electric "Horus" buses have been sold to the city of Bresia.
The all-electric "Elfo" will be able to provide a very impressive daily range by utilizing the Enova Systems 40kW fast-charge unit. The 40kW fast-charge unit is designed to rapidly replenish the battery pack from 20 percent to 80 percent State of Charge at conveniently located stations along the route or at a central depot.
This charging method overcomes the range restrictions typically associated with all-electric bus systems. Specific details on these vehicles can be found on its Web site at ecopowertechnology.com.
Wright Bus, one of the leading suppliers of low-floor buses in the United Kingdom, recently completed the integration of its first hybrid-electric Chorus II bus and has now moved on to complete its rigorous prototype vehicle-testing program. Once the testing is complete, Wright Bus will begin a targeted demonstration program in key markets.
Pending the results of the demonstration program, Wright Bus plans to move to production of this vehicle platform in early 2002. Additional information on the Chorus II bus can be found on the Wright Bus Web site at wright-bus.com.
