Bumgarner wins ARA Kool Seal Challenge at Peach State

For Immediate Release

JEFFERSON, GA (Sept. 22, 2001) - Keith Bumgarner did everything he could
Saturday night in winning the Kool Seal 125 at Peach State Speedway, but the
biggest gain he made against Scott Kilby in the battle for the American
Racing Association (ARA) Kool Seal Challenge Series championship came from
the five bonus points he earned for qualifying quickest.

Both drivers earned 10 bonus passing points after inverting the start, so
Bumgarner actually cut Kilby's lead by six points since Kilby finished
second in his #30 A& H Windows Chevrolet. Kilby led by 20 points entering
the race, and now leads by a 521-507 count.

Bumgarner, of Conover, NC, won by about three seconds in his #95 Country
Chair Ford. It was his sixth ARA Kool Seal victory of the season. He
earned the $100 Battery Supply of Virginia pole award, but elected to invert
and started sixth. Bumgarner clearly had the quickest car and charged his
way to the front on lap 16, never to be headed. He got the best on three
restarts following cautions, and led to the finish of the 125-lap feature.

"It was a great run," Bumgarner said. "The part was perfect, and the only
worry I had was he restarts. But nobody challenged me on the restarts, and
I was able to pull out to a lead. This is what we had to do, and thank
goodness he didn't qualify better. Those bonus points really help."

Kilby, of Statesville, NC, qualified third, inverted and started eighth. He
lagged in the back half of the top 10 but moving into fifth on lap 55. By
lap 68, Kilby was up to second, but he never was able to mount a challenge
to Bumgarner.

Frampton Ferguson of Furman, SC, ran a strong, season-best third in his #19
Wide Open Racing Collectibles Chevrolet, and Jimmy Doyle of Hendersonville,
NC., was fourth in his #10 Mountain Air Mechanical Chevy. Fifth went to
Greg Marlowe of Troutman, NC, in the #07 Southern Pride Chevrolet, and sixth
was Keith Stitlner of Grundy, VA, in the #22 Race Mining Pontiac.

Two of the cautions were because of cut tires, and the race's only incident
came on lap 91 when 16-year-old Danny O'Quinn got into the back of Tim
Weaver's Chevrolet on the front straightaway. The front wheels of O'Quinn's
Chevrolet lifted high off the ground, but slammed back to the asphalt
without doing any serious damage and he continued after a pit stop.

The next ARA Kool Seal Challenge race is Saturday, Oct. 13th, at Galaxy
Kingsport Speedway in Kingsport, TN.
