GRAND BLANC, Mich. -
FOR RELEASE: September 21, 2001 General Motors Grand Blanc Metal Center Raises Money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation
GRAND BLANC, Mich. - On August 25, the General Motors Grand Blanc Metal Center hosted its First Annual Diversity Golf Outing Fundraiser. This fundraiser was a joint GM-UAW effort, and its theme was “Many People, One GM.”
This year, the recipient of the funds raised by the golf outing was the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. The plant sponsored Takara, a seven-year-old girl from Saginaw with Wilms Tumor Disease. Takara’s special wish was to have her own computer so that she could play computer games and further her education.
The men and women of the Grand Blanc Metal Center raised over $13,500 with their charity golf outing. This was enough to grant Takara’s wish, and to also grant the wish of another child, Tristan. Tristan is a four-year-old living with encephalopathy. The wish the plant fulfilled for Tristan was to go to Disney World with his family.
The Grand Blanc Metal Center’s fundraiser was yet another example of General Motors people working together toward a common goal. In this instance, they were able to share the power of a wish with two young people.
