NOTES OF INTEREST: The Pork The Other White Meat 200 at Berlin Raceway
will be the final short-track race of the season for the ARCA RE/MAX
Series. From there, it’s back to superspeedway business in conjunction
with the NASCAR Winston Cup Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (Oct 4),
Talladega Superspeedway (Oct 20) and Atlanta Motor Speedway (11-17) to
finish out the year. This year’s Pork the Other White Meat 200 will be
the 14th ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Berlin since the series first raced
there in 1958. Past ARCA RE/MAX winners at Berlin include Bob James with
2 wins; and tied with 1 each: Andy Hampton, Iggy Katona, Bob Keselowski,
Frank Kimmel, Bob Senneker, Harold Smith, Les Snow, Nelson Stacy, Tim
Steele, Ramo Stott & Don White. This year’s event marks the first
appearance of 3rd-generation driver Jason Jarrett to Berlin. Jarrett,
currently 2nd in points, leads a tight ARCA rookie battle over Todd
Bowsher and Donny Morelock. In addition to Jarrett, this year’s entry
list includes an interesting mix of talent from 16-year-old rookie
Shelby Howard, the youngest driver to ever compete in RE/MAX Series
competition, to veteran, 2-time champ and current point leader Frank
Kimmel. Kimmel, who won his career-33rd RE/MAX Series race last Sunday
in Toledo, has led 1,415 laps in 19 races already this year. Tim Steele,
the hometown favorite and defending race winner, hasn’t raced since Sept
1 at Chicagoland Speedway where he finished 3rd behind winner Ed Berrier
and Jarrett. Kimmel and Steele are the only past champions entered.

POINTS: 1) Frank Kimmel 5985; 2) Jason Jarrett 4905; 3) Andy Belmont
4770; 4) Ron Cox 4220; 5) Norm Benning 3975; 6) Donny Morelock 3900; 7)
Chuck Weber 3895; 8) Todd Bowsher 3870; 9) Tim Steele 3610; 10) Mike
