NASCAR WCUP: Stewart Has Tight Grip On All Martinsville Records

September 21, 2001Martinsville, VA – If Tony Stewart breaks any qualifying records at Martinsville Speedway this fall, he will be picking on himself.
The driver of the Home Depot Pontiac holds all the NASCAR Winston Cup qualifying records for the .526-mile track. He set the spring Virginia 500 record in 1999 with a time of 19.875 seconds and a speed of 95.275 miles per hour.
He established the fall Old Dominion 500 mark and track Winston Cup marks last fall at 19.855 seconds and 95.371 miles per hour.
And to make things even stronger, he’s also the defending champion for the 46th annual running of the $3,029,236 Old Dominion 500 classic that will be run on Sunday, October 14.
Action gets under way on Friday, October 12 with practice and Winston Cup qualifying at 3:05 p.m. followed by a 30-lap Anderson Tractor John Deere Allison Legacy Series race. Admission is $15 for adults with children under 12 admitted free with a paying adult. All seats are unreserved.
Also on the schedule is the $90,068 Advance Auto Parts 200 for the lightning-fast NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour cars on Saturday, October 13.
Modifieds will practice and time trial for the Advance Auto Parts 200 at 11 a.m. on Sept. 13. Rob Summers set the qualifying record for that event in 1999 with a time of 19.140 seconds and speed of 98.934 miles per hour. The Advance Auto Parts 200 starts at 2:45 p.m. and admission is $30 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. All seats are unreserved.
The Old Dominion 500 takes the green flag at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 14.
