Danny Ebberts and Alex Harris resume their battle for the 2001 USAC WorldCom Western Midget Car Series championship this Saturday night at Madera (Calif.) Speedway after a month's hiatus.

Ebberts, of Canyon Lake, Calif., won the last series event, August 18, at Perris, Calif. and leads Harris, of Simi Valley, Calif., by 54 points going into the Madera race, which concludes with a 30-lap feature on the 1/3-mile paved oval.

Ebberts finished third and Harris 19th in an April race at Madera won by John Starks, but both have led the standings in the ensuing months.

Ebberts has never won a USAC championship, while Harris was the 1997 and 1998 USAC WorldCom TQ Midget Car Champ. Defending series champion Wally Pankratz is currently fourth in the standings, behind third-ranking Josh Wise, who won the 1999 TQ Midget title.
