Delta Scientific Asked to Accelerate Delivery of Anti-Terrorist Barriers/Bollards

VALENCIA, Calif.--Sept. 17, 2001--Within hours after the attacks last Tuesday on the World Trade Center and Pentagon and prior to the Congress allocating billions of dollars for anti-terrorist measures, government and military officials were already contacting Delta Scientific to rush deliveries of its barriers and bollards, which protect personnel from vehicle attacks, to government installations around the world.
"We've had over 100 inquiries in the District of Columbia alone requesting we send anything we've got in stock," reported Delta Scientific Senior Vice President David Dickinson. "They need protection right away."
Delta provides barriers that will stop and destroy a truck weighing 15 tons (13,608 Kg) traveling 50 mph (80.5 kph). The barricades can be raised or lowered at will to stop traffic or let it through. In an emergency, the thick steel plates or bollards pop out of the ground within 1.5 seconds.
"Since the bombings in Africa, the State Department has been upgrading embassies, and we've added shifts to meet their demand," explained Dickinson. "Additional orders were received after the bombing of the USS Cole. We told them last week that we were prepared to go into overtime to help them provide increased anti-terrorist protection."
Earlier this year, Delta Scientific barricades and bollards systems were installed at New York City's Daniel Patrick Moynahan U.S. Courthouse and the old Foley Square U.S. Courthouse in time for opening statements in the federal case of the United States vs. Osama bin Laden, the Mideast terrorist who most believe is behind the recent tragedies.
"We were very pleased to be selected to provide protection for these and other facilities and bases both in the U.S. and abroad," affirmed Dickinson. "For the U.S. government, our systems are protecting 200 worldwide embassies, 50 federal courthouses, the Pentagon, State Department headquarters, U.S. Supreme Court and military bases around the globe.
"In addition, we are protecting high-profile corporate headquarters; logistics sites that store and ship vital materials; and even the private residences of powerful, influential people."
