Avis Lowers All One-Way Rates to Facilitate Long Distance Travel

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 14 To help meet the transportation
needs of U.S. travelers in light of this week's tragic events, Avis Rent A Car
System, Inc. announced today that it has implemented a temporary change in its
one-way rate program to accommodate long-distance travelers.
Continuing the policy instituted on September 11th, Avis has greatly
increased availability of "intercity" or "one-way" rentals, which involve
dropping off a rental vehicle at a location different from where it was rented
Effective September 15th through October 15th, Avis has now lowered its
one-way rates available through its toll-free reservation number
(800-331-1212) or online at http://www.avis.com. The change applies at more
than 600 Avis corporate locations throughout the United States and continues
Avis policy of being as flexible as possible to accommodate U.S. travelers.
"We commend our colleagues in the airline industry for their efforts to
get air transportation back on track," said Robert Salerno, president and COO
of Avis Rent A Car System, Inc. "Ever since September 11th, we have been
focused on doing everything possible to let Americans continue their
professional and personal lives. Like all Americans, the employees of Avis
are determined to persevere -- and help customers persevere -- despite the
tragic events of this week."
Avis has also donated vehicles to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, offered
several New York and Washington, DC relief agencies the use of rental vehicles
to assist in the rescue and relief effort, and donated other items to the New
York City rescue workers.
Avis Rent A Car System, Inc. and its subsidiaries operate the world's
second largest general-use car rental business, providing business and leisure
customers with a wide range of services at more than 1,650 locations in the
United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Latin/American Caribbean
region. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cendant Corporation
, a diversified global provider of business and consumer services
primarily within the real estate and travel sectors.
