Allstate Makes $450,000 Donation to Support Fallen Firefighters and Police Officers in Response to September 11, 2001 Tragedy
NORTHBROOK, Ill., Sept. 14 The Allstate Corporation and The Allstate Foundation have announced donations to organizations that will assist the families of fallen heroes as a result of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. Together, The Allstate Corporation and The Allstate Foundation will donate $400,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to assist the families of firefighters who lost their lives during the rescue mission in New York City. Additionally, Allstate is donating $50,000 to the New York City Public-Private Initiatives (NYCPPI) Fund earmarked for the families of the fallen police officers. "Allstate has a long relationship with firefighters and the NFFF. We share the immeasurable loss that New York suffered as a result of the attack on September 11," said Ed Liddy, chairman, president and CEO of The Allstate Corporation. "Contributions have been made to both the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the New York City Public-Private Initiatives in an effort to express our condolences and demonstrate commitment and support to the families of these heroic men and women." In cooperation with the Fire Department of New York, NFFF will provide ongoing support to these families. NFFF partners with mental health professionals and experienced grief counselors to assist the spouses, children and coworkers during the healing process. The NFFF Survivor Support Network connects families who have previously experienced the loss of a loved firefighter to provide daily support. Funds will be set aside for special scholarships to ensure continued educational and/or vocational opportunities for family members. "We are grateful to Allstate for their generous donation that will enable the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to bring its counseling and support programs to the families of firefighters who were lost in the World Trade Center," said Hal Bruno, chairman, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The Allstate Foundation has partnered with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation since 1993, and has provided ongoing financial support over that time. Allstate was the principal corporate partner with the NFFF during the development of a memorial for fallen firefighters, which was unveiled in 1999. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation was created by Congress in 1992, as a non-profit organization to promote and sponsor programs honoring America's fallen firefighters and to assist their families. Current initiatives include management of the annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, creation of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial, and survivor support programs for families and firefighters.
