FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WOODSIDE BRINGS FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP
TO TEAM WALKER MOTORSPORTS
September 10, 2001 (Valencia, Calif.) - Sean Woodside clinched the 2001
Super Late Model division championship in Irwindale's NASCAR Weekly Racing
Series program last Saturday night with one points event still on the
calendar and after missing one event earlier in the season.
Woodside qualified second fastest among and started on the pole after a
two-car inversion. He stayed easily in the top-five in the 75-lap event, and
finished in third place. The second place contender in the points battle,
Nathan Wulff, finished last night's in 11th place, giving Woodside the lead
he needed to lock in the championship.
This marks Woodside's fourth career NASCAR championship, including two in
the former Saugus Speedway late model program and the 1999 NASCAR Winston
West championship.
Woodside's primary focus this year has been on the #45 Team Walker/Ron's
Rear Ends/NAPA Chevrolet in the NASCAR Winston West Series, but he and the
Super Late Model team have given a full-time effort to this program.
"I'm thrilled for the whole team," Woodside said after the race. "We won
this championship because the team consistently produced a top-five car
every race. You can't run up front here on a part-time effort. You've got to
finish up front every time. Our Super Late Model team concentrated on this
series full-time. Thanks to them, a little luck and a lot of concentration,
we were able to give Team Walker Motorsports its first championship."
Team co-owner Donna Walker said, "This year has been an incredible learning
experience for us. To win a championship is very gratifying, and is evidence
of the hard work every team member has put into the effort."
"Donna and Mike Walker set out this year to build a great team," said
Woodside. "They have assembled a great group of people. Some of the guys
have been with me every championship, and some came on board this year. This
year we laid the groundwork to put together a championship caliber team, and
we're already looking forward to next season."
