NSC Congress to Proceed as Scheduled

ITASCA, Il - The National Safety Council (NSC) announced today that its 2001 Congress & Expo will be held as scheduled, from September 21 to 28 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

*The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the NSC family go out to the families and friends of the victims of yesterday*s terrorist attack,* said Council President Alan McMillan. *Even as we mourn their loss, we are renewed in our determination to continue our work on behalf of the safety and health of all Americans.

*As President Bush has urged, we will not allow terrorism to intimidate us, or keep us from carrying out our lifesaving mission,* McMillan said.

McMillan said the Council will work closely with the management of the World Congress Center, the Atlanta Conventions Bureau, Congress hotels and city officials to maximize the safety of Congress attendees and exhibitors.

The Council has offered its assistance to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other organizations that are responding to the destruction of the World Trade Center and the attack on the Pentagon. The Council also plans a special recognition at its Congress & Expo in honor of the heroic firefighters, police and emergency response personnel who participated in the rescue efforts, many at the cost of their lives.

*When our way of life comes under attack, as it did yesterday, it is helpful to step back and reflect on our nation*s strengths - the strengths that come from our long heritage of freedom and democracy,* McMillan said. *Our way of life will go on. Our work will go on. If anything, I believe yesterday*s events make the National Safety Council, and the American people, even more committed to the goals and ideals that make our country great.*
