BorgWarner Challenge Cup Won by Ford for Fifth Consecutive
Year
CHICAGO, Sept. 12 Labor Weekend marked the fifth
consecutive victory for Ford Motor Company at the Crandon International
Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin, and a "three-peat" victory for Rob
MacCachren, who drove a Ford F-150 truck to victory for the third year in a
row. MacCachren successfully defended his 'King of Off-Road Racing' crown
against a field of 17 trucks in front of a record crowd at Crandon.
"We're delighted that The BorgWarner Manufacturers' Challenge Cup will
reside for yet another year with Ford Motor Company," said Tim Manganello,
President, BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems. "I am proud to say that Rob's
winning Ford F-150 truck was equipped with a BorgWarner Torque-on-Demand(TM)
4 X 4 transfer case, as were the Ford F-150s that placed second and third."
The BorgWarner Manufacturers' Challenge Cup goes to the manufacturer of
the winning truck in the BorgWarner World Championship Off-Road Races, held at
the Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin over Labor
Day weekend. The $120,000 hand-crafted cup stands 44 inches tall and is made
of sterling silver and 18-karat gold. BorgWarner presented the award for the
first time in 1995. Previous winners include DaimlerChrysler Corporation and
GM's Chevrolet Division.
BorgWarner's support of off-road racing has strong ties to its research
and development efforts in advancing the company's product leadership position
in the automotive industry. The strenuous conditions of off-road racing
provide an excellent proving ground to test the performance and endurance of
the company's four-wheel-drive transfer cases. A transfer case allows a
vehicle to shift between two- and four-wheel drive.
BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems is the leading independent global designer
and producer of torque distribution and management systems -- transfer cases,
InterActive Torque Management (ITM) devices -- for four-wheel drive vehicles
for the sport-utility, light truck and crossover vehicle markets. These
systems enhance driver security, driveability and handling.
