Visteon Systems Ready to Deliver Fuel Economy Improvements

FRANKFURT, Germany, Sept. 12 As global interest increases
for reducing automotive emissions and fuel consumption, Visteon Corporation
is ready to deliver the next generation of integrated automotive
systems designed to improve fuel economy through more efficient fuel flow,
reduced engine power requirements and weight, as well as hybrid technologies.

"Delivering fuel economy system solutions to meet customer expectations
means making improvements to every vehicle system from chassis to powertrain,
to thermal management, to interiors, safety systems and much more," said
Wilfried Janke, Visteon's Vice President and General Manager Customer Business
Group. "Today's competitive environment requires expertise, systems
innovation and the ability to improve fuel economy in an environmentally
friendly way."

The German auto industry pledged to reduce the average fuel consumption of
new passenger cars by 25 percent over 1990 levels by the year 2005 (according
to Verband derAutomobilindustrie, E.V.), and a Wall Street Journal survey
indicates 87 percent of Americans support requirements for improved fuel
economy. Visteon's bumper-to-bumper solutions are ready to deliver the
required improvements across the globe.

    * Visteon's fuel-delivery systems reduce weight, create a more efficient
flow of fuel and reduce engine power requirements. One feature of the fuel
delivery system is the all-new Brushless Fuel Pump, a small electrical device
with a big impact. The pump increases fuel economy by up to 0.085 kilometers
per liter (0.2 miles per gallon) -- a significant number in the context of
automotive volumes and offers nearly two times the longevity of conventional
fuel pumps that contain brushes.

Additionally, the Brushless Fuel Pump draws less current than conventional
fuel pumps, which accounts for the increased fuel economy. In terms of
durability, Visteon's Brushless Fuel Pump outlasts conventional fuel pumps by
using electronics in place of brushes. This pump, as part of Visteon's family
of plastic fuel tank systems, offers a fuel storage and delivery system
capable of reshaping the industry.

    * Chassis system innovations also contribute to Visteon's capability to
deliver fuel economy improvements today. Visteon's revolutionary Slip-in-Tube
Driveshaft is a lightweight, splined driveshaft that marks the first major re-
design in splined driveshaft technology in decades. This innovative driveline
system eliminates heavy cast componentry and reduces weight by up to 30
percent. The driveshaft also enhances crash energy management by providing a
controlled telescoping distance of up to eight inches at a relatively low
load, allowing the energy to be absorbed and reducing the risk of fuel tank
rupture in the event of a vehicle accident.

The manufacturing process of this patent-pending driveline uses a Computer
Numerically Controlled (CNC) cold rolling spline process. This technique
means that no material -- neither the inner nor the outer tube -- is machined
away. The process allows the tubes to slide in and out of each other easily
even under heavy torque. Additionally, the aluminum material is anodized,
which brings a hardness that reduces friction and extends the life of the
components while preventing wear and corrosion. During some durability tests,
Visteon's new Slip-in-Tube Driveshaft lasted more than four times longer than
traditional driveshafts.

    * Visteon's innovative solutions meet customer needs for improved fuel
economy moved under the hood with this year's introduction of Visteon's
PrecisionCooling(TM) system. This integrated, all-in-one engine cooling
system delivers improved fuel economy by up to 5 percent and reduced emissions
achieved by reducing the release of hydrocarbons. It is a revolutionary
system that integrates control of the vehicle's engine cooling components into
a state-of-the-art electronic control module. This module monitors and
regulates the flow of fluid and air throughout the engine.

Additionally, PrecisionCooling(TM) delivers improved heating and cooling
for passengers by up to 3 degrees (Celsius) cooler in A/C mode and up to 10
degrees (Celsius) warmer in heater mode.

The development of hybrid technologies is another Visteon effort to
support its customers in delivering improved fuel economy. Visteon's Electro-
Mechanical Drive System -- a new hybrid technology -- offers improvements in
fuel economy and reduced emissions by enabling start/stop, torque assist and
regenerative braking abilities in one, compact package. Visteon's innovative
Electro-Mechanical Drive System is a belt-driven technology that allows a
smaller motor to create the same amount of starting torque as traditional
starter/alternator systems. Electro-Mechanical Drive is designed with the
customer in mind as it can easily be integrated into existing engines and
transmissions with minimal design changes.
