Everyone with automotive interests is invited to celebrate Bobbie'dine
Rodda's 80th birthday at a party December 10 and help fund an automotive
research library at the Petersen Automotive Museum. For those who don't
know her, Bobbie'dine Rodda is also known as Miss Information, the creator
of the Automotive Calendar of Events (ACE). The ACE is "THE" source for
local automotive event information

Plans have been afoot to build a world-class library in the Petersen
Automotive Museum ever since it was launched. It's time to lay
those pedestrian dreams aside and do something.

"I don't want (or need) presents," Bobbie'dine said about her birthday.
"Let's raise funds for a Petersen Library."

If just half of Bobbie'dine's friends respond, the library will have a great
foundation on which to grow.

Yes, Bobbie'dine is a legend among automotive hobbyists. She is a tireless
worker who has spent decades promoting car events. There are few who have
not seen a Bobbie'dine Rodda photo somewhere or read one of her enthusiastic
reports or spent a moment
visiting with her at a show, concours or other meet.

The party at The Petersen starts at 2 p.m. Monday, December 10th at Fairfax
and Wilshire in Los Angeles. It is being sponsored by Checkered Flag 200,
Classic Car Club SoCal and SoCal Chapter SAH. Meguiar's, Miss Information's
Automotive Calendar of Events and Richard Messer will be helping with the
expenses. We want all funds to go toward the new library!

Please send your tax-deductible $20 or more (payable to the Petersen
Automotive Museum) before December 7 to:

	John C. Meyer III
	24244 Hamlin St
	West Hills CA 91307

Let's be perfectly clear about The Petersen. The time is overdue for it to
have a major research library. A lot of people will have to pitch in to make
it a reality but once established it will be like no other. That doesn't
mean it will replace the Detroit Public Library, the National Automobile
Museum's library in Reno or the one located at the Nethercutt Collection.
Each will be used and appreciated for what it is. The Petersen is likely to
be a bit more comprehensive concerning post-WWII vehicles, performance
machines, customs, imports, racecars and hot rods. What's so bad about that?

That means when a writer does his research at The Petersen, he gets
first-hand back-to-the-source data. Having access to that type of "unique"
material is invaluable to a historian.

The potential is there.

By capturing the spirit and individuality of the Southern California car
culture, The Petersen is a major attraction and (like it or not) a badge of
honor for us hobbyists. And, like Southern California, The Petersen is no
place for the mundane or commonplace. It
revels in cars with personality and the historically significant
(particularly if that history is tied to Southern California). Why should we
expect less from a Petersen research library?

Bobbie'dine's idea is a wonderful one. Let's get to work and build a
library. You could also attend her birthday party December 10 and say you
were there when it all started.
