American Honda Creates eBusiness Division; New Division Will Enhance and Personalize Customer Interaction With Honda
TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 10 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced the creation of a new "eBusiness Division" to better serve its customers by utilizing the latest e-business applications and advanced technology. American Honda's new business unit will provide its customers, which include consumers, dealers and Honda associates who interact with the public, with increased self-service and quicker access to product and service information. "By creating the eBusiness Division, American Honda is building a more efficient, more user-friendly business environment that will allow us to better serve our customers," said Steven Center, assistant vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc.'s eBusiness Division. For example, Center said the company will soon introduce personalized Web pages and offer other consumer-friendly services online. "This new division will streamline customer contact with American Honda and its dealers. These 'personal portals' will enable consumers to manage their relationships with American Honda, and track their sales and service transactions with its dealers," added Center. Through a new high-speed Web-based system, American Honda's dealers will have instant online access to Honda-generated proprietary information such as sales and service training, business transactions, and product, service, marketing and technical information. "Honda is one of the top selling automobile brands on the Internet and our customers are very Internet savvy," said Michael Keranen, assistant vice president - information technology, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.'s eBusiness Division. "Of course, we will continue to offer a direct, live interface between our customers and American Honda associates. But by using the latest technology, the eBusiness Division will provide an enhanced level of customer service options." American Honda began operations in North America in 1959 with the establishment of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Honda's first overseas subsidiary. Today, more than 19,000 associates in the United States are employed by Honda in the areas of design, development, engineering, assembly and sales of Honda and Acura products. Honda operates 10 manufacturing facilities in North America that produce automobiles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, power equipment, transmissions and engines, using domestic and globally sourced parts. Honda exports its products from North America to more than 90 different countries worldwide.
