NEW YORK, Sept. 10 Standard & Poor's today assigned its preliminary ratings to DaimlerChrysler Auto Trust 2001-C's $1,856,473,000 asset-backed notes and certificates. The preliminary ratings are based on information as of Sept. 10, 2001. Subsequent information may result in the assignment of final ratings that differ from the preliminary ratings. The preliminary ratings on DaimlerChrysler Auto Trust 2001-C's (DCAT) notes and certificates reflect credit enhancement in the form of 3.50% of initial overcollateralization, 3.25% subordinated asset-backed certificates, a 0.25% fully funded reserve account, and about 1.5%-2.5% in excess spread. The size of the yield supplement overcollateralization amount is $28.7 million compared with $52 million in the previous transaction, DCAT 2001-B. This decrease was the result of discounting loans below 4.35% at 4.35% for this transaction compared with discounting loans below 5.25% at 5.25% for the previous transaction. The discount rate is chosen to generate the necessary additional excess spread. In addition to the above credit enhancement, the ratings on the 2001-C securitization are based on the extensive amount of data obtained from Chrysler Financial Co. LLC, the solid credit quality of the underlying pool of automobile loans, a sound legal structure, and about 9.50% in total credit enhancement.
