FOR RELEASE: September 7, 2001 Buick Posts Second Month Of Sales Gains; Rendezvous Widens Lead
DETROIT- Much of Buick's recent sales improvement can be attributed to the all-new Rendezvous, Buick General Manager Roger W. Adams said today. Buick's total sales in August were 9.5 percent higher than in the same month last year (46,764 vs. 42,715). In July, Buick sales were up 24.6 percent from the same month last year (35,529 vs. 28,512).
Production for the Rendezvous, Buick's new entry in the booming truck market, began in mid April. Since then sales have increased each month. Rendezvous finished July with 2,740 deliveries and sales grew 33 percent in August with 3,998 sales. This marks the second straight month that Rendezvous outsold the Acura MDX.
"We are seeing more buyers with children, and customers who are trading in sedans, minivans and SUVs for a vehicle that really combines the best attributes of all three vehicles," said Jack Bowen, Rendezvous brand manager. "It's the right product with a nice price advantage when compared to the competition." Two Buick sedans also fared well in a declining industry. Buick Regal and Century sales increased 20.9 and 16.8 respectively over August last year.
