Jeep(R) Brand Joins HBO in Honoring World War II Heroes
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 10 In celebration of HBO's "Band of Brothers," the story of the men of Easy Company and their journey from everyday Americans to World War II heroes, Jeep(R) will support a multimedia campaign to honor the shared values, heritage and spirit of "Band of Brothers" and the Jeep brand. This begins a series of 60th anniversary celebrations that the Jeep brand will be organizing to honor the men and women of WWII and commemorate their contributions for the cause of freedom. Launching this celebration is a series of tribute spots produced by "Band of Brothers" episode director and co-executive producer, Tony To, in collaboration with Jeep and Arnell Group. Shot in Normandy, where Easy Company landed on D-Day 57 years ago, the spots celebrate the men's legacy and recognize Jeep's role in that historic landing. The tribute spots will begin airing nationally on broadcast television the week of September 10th and will run through the duration of the ten-week miniseries. In conjunction with the brand's anniversary, Jeep's entire lineup will be featured, highlighting the newly launched Jeep Liberty. "It made sense for us creatively to have Jeep join HBO in celebrating this historic event because Jeep and 'Band of Brothers' celebrate and share the same values -- a can-do, innovative spirit that celebrates freedom and independence -- and therefore it's a natural and organic partnership," said Tony To. "It was an honor to help create these spots that will remind everyone of the heroism of the men of Easy Company and the role Jeep played helping them do their job during those difficult days," added To. "Band of Brothers" tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Starting rigorous training in Georgia in 1942, it recounts the achievements of the elite rifle company, which parachuted into France early on D-Day morning, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and captured Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. "Band of Brothers" chronicles a unit that took 150 percent casualties and became true American heroes. Based on Stephen Ambrose's nonfiction best-seller about a World War II U.S. Army unit, the miniseries debuted on HBO Sunday, September 9 at 9 p.m. (ET) and will run for 10 weeks. "It is very fitting that Jeep is joining HBO in honoring the men of Easy Company," said Eric Kessler, Executive Vice President Marketing, HBO. "Jeep played a vital role in World War II and we are delighted they are helping us pay tribute to these heroes." "With this partnership we are seeking to create an educational bridge to a new generation, the 'Millennials,' as well as a reminder to all generations to recommit to democracy and freedom," said Jeff Bell, Vice President Marketing Communications, DaimlerChrysler. "This partnership will forever preserve the legacy of our everyday heroes." HBO's "Band of Brothers" web site at http://www.hbo.com serves as a living memorial to all the veterans who served in WWII. With the youthful generation Y showing a renewed interest in history as a means to ignite and inform their future, Jeep is supporting the development and growth of this informational resource. Jeep brand dealer showrooms will bring the "Band of Brothers" spirit to life through displays and material on Jeep and its role alongside the men and women of WWII. The Jeep brand was created on July 23, 1941 when Willys Overland landed a contract with the US Army to produce a special vehicle for use in World War II. The Jeep, as it came to be called, was engineered and built in only 60 days. In 1950 the company decided to capitalize on the equity and heroic performance of the vehicle during the war and registered the Jeep marque for the U.S. and abroad. Jeep is a registered trademark of DaimlerChrysler and among the most recognized brands in the world. The all-new Liberty joins the already formidable Jeep lineup as the newest member of the legendary brand started 60 years ago. Jeep Grand Cherokee is the flagship of the brand, offering an exceptional balance of power, capability and refinement. Wrangler is a direct descendent of the "original" Jeep vehicle 60 years ago, maintaining popularity with its fun and freedom youthful image. Jeep Liberty and Wrangler are produced in Toledo, OH and Jeep Grand Cherokee is produced in Detroit, MI and Graz, Austria. Jeep vehicles are sold in nearly 100 countries around the world in both left- and right-hand drive versions. Annual U.S. sales are approximately 500,000.
