Teleflex Makes Presentation At Gabelli & Company Aircraft Suppliers Conference
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa.--Sept. 7, 2001--Teleflex Incorporated management told analysts and investors today that the company expects results this year will continue its longstanding record of growth in revenues and earnings. Innovative products are driving the growth, as well as strategic acquisitions, and an increasing mix of fully integrated systems versus discreet components. Dr. Roy C. Carriker, vice chairman, and Janine Dusossoit, vice president of investor relations, made their remarks at the Gabelli & Company conference in New York.As announced in July, Teleflex achieved revenue and net income growth of 9% in the first six months of 2001. "Sales of new products such as adjustable pedal systems are helping to offset current weakness in the automotive and marine markets," said Ms. Dusossoit. "We also continue to pursue acquisitions to supplement core growth, using our healthy balance sheet and strong cash flow." In the first half of this year, Teleflex acquired 10 businesses, the largest of which was Morse Controls, a worldwide supplier of marine and industrial products.
Dr. Carriker reviewed the Aerospace Segment, which achieved a 25% increase in sales in the first six months of 2001, while improving operating margins as well. Telair International, one of four product lines in the Segment, supplies on-board air cargo handling systems to both Airbus and Boeing, as well as to more than 50 airlines worldwide. "We expect sales of cargo systems to triple over the next five years," said Dr. Carriker, "as a result of increasing sales of more fully integrated systems, additional market penetration, and growth in spares and repairs."
Dr. Carriker also spoke about Sermatech International product lines, which generated about three-quarters of the Aerospace Segment sales in 2000. "With a widely diverse customer base of OEMs and end-users," he said, "Sermatech is growing by increasing the scope and value of the products and services we offer." He said he expected sales in 2001 to rise more than 10% as a result of strength in the compressor airfoil repair business, as well as in industrial gas turbine (IGT) services. "As the demand for power worldwide continues to grow, particularly in Asia and the Middle East," he said, "Sermatech is expanding its capabilities to include diagnostic monitoring, engineering and field services that will enable the company to provide full life cycle support to IGT end-users on a global basis."
