Kenworth Introduces Electronic Vision System Option at Great American
Trucking Show in Dallas
DALLAS, Texas, Sept. 7, 2001 - Kenworth Truck Company today introduced an
Electronic Vision System (EVS) option for its Class 8 product line. The
announcement was made in conjunction with the Great American Trucking Show
in Dallas.
Kenworth's new vision system features a curbside video camera located on the
sleeper of the vehicle's passenger side. The camera's image is displayed on
a 6-1/2-inch, high-resolution video monitor mounted to the cab header. The
curbside camera supplements existing mirror and window visibility by
providing a wide-angle view of the vehicle's right side to aid in lane
changes, turning tight corners, pulling in and backing up.
The curbside camera can be ordered as a stand-alone unit or with the Alpine
DVD electronic navigation system, which also is a Kenworth technology
option.
"The Electronic Vision System's curbside camera option is yet another
technology tool that Kenworth has rolled out to assist customers," said
Steve Gilligan, Kenworth general marketing manager. "The curbside camera was
first incorporated into our T2000 High-Tech concept vehicle and displayed at
major trade shows to gather customer feedback. Kenworth received very
positive comments from fleets and drivers on this technology and pushed
forward to bring this EVS option into production."
The new Kenworth curbside camera option is available with the T2000 75-inch
AERODYNE and 60-inch sleeper models; W900, T800 and T600 models with 86-inch
Studio AeroCab®; and 72-inch AERODYNE AeroCab(tm) with W900, T800 and T600
models.
The Alpine navigation system enables the driver to input a destination, then
receive visual and even verbal directions, helping to keep the driver's
attention on the road. The system comes with an easy-to-use remote control
with push-button selection controls. The remote control can be operated in a
dash-mounted cradle or hand-held for easy use.
The Alpine navigation system is available on Kenworth's T2000, T800, W900,
T800, T600 and C500 Class 8 models, and T300 medium-duty conventional.
When the curbside camera and monitor are ordered with the Alpine navigation
system, the driver simply pushes a button on the monitor to display either
the camera image or navigation system image.
