Tomkins PLC Appoints Non-Executive Director
LONDON--Sept. 7, 2001--Tomkins PLC announces that Jack Keenan will join the Board as a non-executive director on November 1, 2001 and will become a member of the Audit Committee and the Remuneration Committee.Jack Keenan, aged 64, is Deputy Chief Executive of Guinness United Distillers & Vintners and an executive director of Diageo plc; he retires from that board in October 2001. He is also a non-executive director of The Body Shop International plc and Marks & Spencer plc and a patron of the advisory board of the Cambridge Centre for International Business and Management.

John (Jack) Keenan Deputy CEO, Guinness UDV
Jack Keenan is a US citizen resident in the UK. He was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Guinness UDV, part of Diageo plc, the global branded consumer goods company, on September 1, 2000. Jack has been Chief Executive Officer for UDV since December 1997. He is a member of the Diageo plc Board. He retires from that board in October 2001.
Jack originally joined International Distillers & Vintners (IDV) as Chief Executive in March 1996 and was appointed to the Board of Grand Metropolitan plc. Prior to this he spent more than 30 years in marketing and general management positions with the General Foods Group and Kraft Foods International, subsidiaries of the Philip Morris Companies, rising to Chairman, Kraft Foods International.
During his career, Jack has built significant consumer brand businesses around the world, including the UK. He has also been at the centre of significant change management in recent years.
Jack is currently a non-executive director of The Body Shop International plc and Marks and Spencer plc. Jack is also a patron of the advisory board of the Cambridge Centre for International Business and Management. He has served on the boards of Cable & Wireless Communications and Moet Hennessy.
Jack was educated at Tufts University in Boston and Harvard Business School.
Born in New York in October 1936, he is married with one son.
